Artist Statement
My ceramic sculptures reflect upon the various facets of climate change with a playful yet ironic tone. My sculptures are heavily inspired by everyday observations and scientific research pertaining to issues within climate change such as biodiversity loss, ocean acidification, phenological mismatch and global warming in this everchanging world.
My work is primarily representational and often delves into the realm of surrealism, weaving one or more elements from the actual world over one another to create layered narratives about the dangers of climate change and how it affects us in more ways than imagined. I use clay to mold the very world that we are familiar with and transform it into something that stands under a new light through the manipulation of texture, colors and space.
